Minister Launches PMKVY 3.0 Nationwide

The Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is set to inaugurate the third phase of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 3.0) on January 15. This new phase will extend its reach to 600 districts across all states in India, aiming to continue the momentum of skill development among the youth and create a skilled workforce that can contribute to the nation’s economy.

Overview of PMKVY 3.0

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana’s third phase has been designed with the objective of training approximately 8 lakh candidates during the fiscal year 2020-2021. The government has allocated a budget of Rs. 948.90 crores for the execution of this phase. One of the notable aspects of PMKVY 3.0 is its emphasis on imparting skills that are relevant in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as skills that are deemed essential for the future, often referred to as new-age skills. These skills are expected to be in high demand and are important for the evolving job market.

Training Infrastructure and Implementation

To facilitate the training of candidates under PMKVY 3.0, a network of 729 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs), along with various empaneled non-PMKK training centers and over 200 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), will be utilized. These centers are equipped to provide high-quality training to individuals, ensuring that they emerge as skilled professionals ready to meet the industry requirements. The extensive spread of these training centers is crucial for the program’s goal to create a robust pool of skilled manpower.

The Skill India Mission

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 15, 2015, the Skill India Mission is an ambitious project managed by the National Skills Development Corporation of India (NSDC). The mission was initiated with the vision to train more than 40 crore people in various skills by the year 2022. As the flagship scheme under this mission, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the objectives of the Skill India Mission by providing skill training to millions of youth across the country.

PMKVY, since its inception, has been instrumental in making vocational training accessible to the masses and in promoting a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. By focusing on skill development, the mission seeks to empower individuals to improve their employability and ability to adapt to changing technologies and labor market demands. With the launch of PMKVY 3.0, the Skill India Mission is poised to take another significant step towards building a skilled India.
