Prime Minister?s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) was set up in 1948 to assist displaced persons from Pakistan. The fund is currently being used to provide immediate assistance to families of those who were killed in natural calamities and to the victims of major accidents and riots. The fund does not get any budgetary support. It consists entirely of public contributions. The disbursements are made after the approval of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh to the next of kin of those who died because of rains and floods in Madhya Pradesh. He also approved Rs.50,000 for the injured. The rains and floods in the state affected around 1,171 villages in Gwalior-Chambal areas. More than 6,000 people were evacuated.
