Prime Minister Inaugurates Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh

The existing Lucknow-Sultanpur Road track in the Lucknow district of Chandsarai village marks the starting point of something new: the Purvanchal Expressway. This recently inaugurated project extends all the way to Haidaria village situated on National Highway 31, 18 km from the UP-Bihar border, in Ghazipur district. The goal behind this initiative is to bridge the eastern and the western parts of Uttar Pradesh (UP), bringing an unparalleled industrial boost to the state.

The Purvanchal Expressway: A Detailed Overview

The newly introduced Purvanchal Expressway is designed to enhance connectivity within the state of Uttar Pradesh. By linking the existing Agra-Lucknow and Agra-Noida Yamuna expressways, an industrial corridor will be formed that not only spans the width of the state but also provides vital multi-modal transport services.

Nine districts including Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau, and Ghazipur are privileged to enjoy the perks of this greenfield expressway. In addition to CNG stations, it will also feature electric recharge stations for vehicles, while facilitating connection with the defense corridor via the Agra and Bundelkhand expressways.

Anticipated Benefits of the Purvanchal Expressway

This ambitious project extends its reach beyond Lucknow, making a broader connection with the National Capital through the Agra-Lucknow and Yamuna Expressways. Economically, it hopes to revamp the eastern region’s development status. The expressway ensures the local products and agri commodities get better and quicker access to more significant markets.

Uttar Pradesh’s New Network of Expressways

As well as the Purvanchal Expressway, three more expressways await completion, supplementing the existing Agra-Lucknow, Yamuna, and the proposed defence corridor. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is responsible for these projects’ completion, set up under the UP Industrial Area Development Act.

About the Industrial Corridor

India’s National Industrial Corridor programme aims to develop various Industrial Corridor Projects. This ambitious infrastructure scheme focuses on developing new industrial cities, instilled with next-generation technologies to make them “Smart Cities”. The objective is to build futuristic industrial cities in India, which can compete on a global scale, thereby leading to employment growth and overall socio-economic development.

The National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) is tasked with implementing the development of these eleven industrial corridor projects. These industrial corridors will feature world-class infrastructure such as high-speed transportation networks, modern airports, state-of-the-art cargo handling equipped ports, special economic regions, industrial areas, logistic parks, transhipment hubs, knowledge parks focused on industrial needs, and complementary infrastructure like townships, real estate, other urban infrastructure along with a supporting policy framework.
