Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia. It is under construction since 2011. It currently an issue of contention between Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia. The three countries have recently held further negotiations to settle the dispute. Previous three-way talks have failed to ensure an agreement on operation and filling of the vast reservoir behind GERD. While Egypt fears that this project would affect its water supply from Nile, Sudan is keen on conclusion of an agreement to reduce the risk of flooding.
