The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, following its collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, proudly announces the launch of the international version of the government’s UMANG app. The new version, fittingly termed ‘UMANG International’, marks the illustrious three-year anniversary of the original domestic app that debuted back in 2017.
Availability
UMANG International is currently available in various selected countries including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, UAE, Netherlands, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. This broad coverage is specifically designed to cater to an international audience, subsequently expanding the scope and reach of the Indian government’s digital services.
Anticipated Benefits
UMANG International is set to offer numerous benefits to specific groups of people, particularly Indian international students, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), and Indian tourists abroad. Primarily, they can conveniently avail themselves Government of India services at any time, no matter their location. In addition, through ‘Indian Culture’ services, it opens a window to India’s rich culture for foreign tourists, potentially increasing their interest to visit India.
About UMANG App
UMANG, an acronym for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, is a single, unified, secure, multi-channel, multi-lingual, and multi-service mobile app from the Government of India. It provides an interface for users to access a wide spectrum of high-impact services from various organizations at both central and state levels. Currently, the app offers over 2000 different services.
Objective of UMANG
The fundamental aim of the UMANG initiative is to push the envelope for mobile governance in India. By providing easy access to myriads of Indian government services, it greatly facilitates the ‘Ease of Living’ for citizens. Ranging from Healthcare, Finance, Education, Housing, Energy, Agriculture, Transport to even Utility and Employment and Skills, it has something for everyone.
Key Partners
UMANG boasts of partnerships with several significant organizations. These include the Employee Provident Fund Organization, Direct Benefit Transfer scheme departments, Employee State Insurance Corporation, and ministries in various sectors such as Health, Education, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry. It also has a partnership with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
Usage Statistics
The top three states based on average monthly transactions are Gujarat, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh, indicating the wide acceptance and usage of UMANG across these regions.
Development and Recognition
UMANG was developed by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), falling under the purview of the Ministry of Electronics & IT. As part of the ‘Digital India’ initiative, it is aimed at digitizing various government services for ease of access. The venerated app was awarded ‘Best m-Government service’ at the 6th World Government Summit held in Dubai, UAE in February 2018, establishing its global standing in mobile governance.
