With a focus on improving the lives and futures of youth, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has launched ‘YuWaah’ Generation Unlimited (GenU) in India. This grand initiative was kick-started on November 1, 2019, with a global multisector, multi-stakeholder alliance under its hood. GenU, known as YuWaah in India, is designed to satisfy the growing demands for better education, skill development and potential employment opportunities for young people aged between 10 and 24 years.
Who are the partners of YuWaah?
YuWaah, which targets both adolescent girls and boys, is a collective effort that involves partners from varied domains. The government, multilateral organizations, civil society, the private sector, and youth from across the globe have come together to spearhead this comprehensive movement.
What is the central mission of YuWaah?
YuWaah goes beyond the ordinary bounds of the formal education system, aiming to provide access to foundational, transferable and 21st-century skills for young people. It’s not just about bookish knowledge. YuWaah is also dedicated to creating platforms that guide youth towards market opportunities. This includes career guidance, mentorship programs, internships and apprenticeships, and also facilitating the incorporation of career guidance within the school curriculum.
GenU’s Aims and Objectives
GenU embodies a number of key goals that revolve around improving and broadening youth prospects. These aims include:
- Modernizing secondary education and training to equip young people with the necessary skills needed for productive lives and work environments.
- Increasing and enhancing the number of quality work opportunities available to youth.
- Promoting entrepreneurship as both a mindset and livelihood for young people.
- Collaborating with the youth as problem-solvers and getting them involved as active citizens in creating the world they desire.
