Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir 2026

The Ministry of Mines will organise the Rashtriya Khanij Chintan Shivir–2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 8 to 10 January 2026. The event is designed to hold structured discussions on regulatory and developmental issues in the mining sector and to strengthen Centre-State coordination. It will bring together Union and State ministers, senior officials, experts and industry stakeholders.

Event Overview

The formal inauguration will take place at the Mahatma Mandir Convention and Exhibition Centre on 9 January. The event will be inaugurated by the Union Minister for Coal and Mines. It will also be attended by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, the Minister of Labour and Employment, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and the Minister of State for Coal and Mines.

Focus on Critical Minerals

A major focus of the Chintan Shivir will be the Critical Minerals Mission. The mission aims to strengthen domestic availability of critical and strategic minerals needed for clean energy transition, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies. Key discussions will cover:

  • Expansion of mineral exploration.
  • Securing resilient supply chains.
  • Encouraging domestic processing and value addition.
  • Improving Centre-State coordination for mineral security.

Mining Sector Priorities

The event will also examine broader issues affecting the mining sector. These include exploration and auction of mineral blocks, sustainable and responsible mining, adoption of advanced technologies, mine safety, ease of doing business, and promotion of value addition. The discussions are expected to support reduced import dependence and greater self-reliance in mineral resources.

Significance for Policy and Coordination

The Chintan Shivir is intended to provide a common platform for the Centre and States to share best practices, address operational challenges and develop a coordinated roadmap for the long-term growth of India’s mining sector. It aligns with national priorities on resource security, industrial development and sustainable mining.
