India-UAE Talks On Energy Security

India-UAE Talks On Energy Security

On 26 April 2026, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited Abu Dhabi and met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The talks covered the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE, regional security in West Asia, and energy security.

India-UAE Strategic Partnership

The India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was established in 2017 and covers trade, energy, defence, technology, and people-to-people ties. The UAE is one of India’s major trading partners in West Asia and a key source of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas.

Energy Security And Gulf Supplies

Energy security refers to the availability of reliable and affordable energy supplies for a country. India imports a large share of its crude oil and LPG requirements, and Gulf suppliers remain important for these imports. LPG shipments from the Gulf to India and other Asian countries have faced risks linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow sea passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

West Asia And Maritime Chokepoints

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints for oil and gas transport. Any disruption in this route can affect energy flows to India, East Asia, and Europe. West Asia remains central to global energy markets because several major producers and exporters are located in the region.

Recent High-Level Engagements

The Abu Dhabi meeting followed External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to the UAE earlier in April 2026. High-level India-UAE exchanges in close succession are part of regular diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

Exam Facts

The UAE capital is Abu Dhabi, and the country is a federation of seven emirates. The Supreme National Security Council is a key security institution in the UAE, and its Secretary-General Ali bin Hammad Al Shamsi attended the meeting.
