Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched by the Central Government to provide basic amenities like water supply, waste management, urban transport etc., to improve the quality of life in urban areas. It focuses on providing infrastructure support to ensure better services for citizens. The majority focus is given to the development of parks with children and elderly friendly features.

The mission covers 500 cities, including those urban areas with a population of more than 1 lakh. Till date, it provided more than 105 lakh tap water connections against the target of 139 lakh. 1,850 parks and 3,770 acres of green areas were developed under this project.
