Assam IWT Project

Assam IWT Project was launched by the state government to increase safety and security of inland water transport system. The outlay for this scheme is Rs.90 crore. Recently, the government had flagged off five vessels under this project.
The Assam IWT Project was approved in October 2015 by the Department of Economic Affairs, Union Ministry of Finance. It aims to improve Assam’s passenger ferry infrastructure and services. It also seeks to improve the institutional capacity and framework for inland water transport in the state. The government is currently converting 853 single engine boats that operate in Brahmaputra into marine engine boats.
