Calls on Probe into Covid Origin supported by India

With the renewed global calls for a comprehensive investigation into the origins of the Covid-19 by the World Health Organisation, India has extended its support for the calls.

India has extended support after the US President asked its intelligence agencies to look into the emergence of the Coronavirus in China.

Demands have been raised by countries that also include the USA and Australia to further investigate that whether Coronavirus originated in the city of Wuhan in China from an animal source or from laboratory related accidents in the month of December in 2019. Earlier, in the month of March 2021, the World Health Organization presented a report on the origins of virus but the USA and the other countries of the world were not satisfied with it. WHOP has said that global study of the origin of the virus is an important step based o which the next phase of studies can generate better data to draw a conclusion.

Theories about the origin of the Virus.

In 2020 scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory conducted a study regarding the origins of the SARS-Cov-2 virus and reached to a conclusion that the Coronavirus may have been originated from a Chinese laboratory. However, their report also concluded that the virus could have originated from a lab as well as it could be a zoonotic virus.

The Wuhan Institute of Virology has come to the global spotlight when a USA media report claimed that three researchers from the institute were hospitalised in the month of November 2019, few weeks before China disclosed about the rising Covid-19 cases in the city of Wuhan. China has denied this report of the US media by stating that there were no Covid-19 infections traced at the institute.
