CISF Launches Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has launched the second edition of the Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026 as part of the 150th anniversary commemoration of Vande Mataram. The 25-day event began with a virtual flag-off from New Delhi and will continue till the 22nd of next month. The initiative carries the theme Surakshit Tat, Samridh Bharat and aims to promote coastal security awareness, patriotism, fitness and community participation.

Key Features of the Cyclothon

  • Two CISF cycling teams will travel simultaneously from Bakhali in West Bengal and Lakhpat Fort in Gujarat.
  • The route will cover around 6,500 kilometres.
  • The journey will culminate at Cochin in Kerala.
  • A total of 148 CISF personnel will participate, including 65 women.

Purpose and National Significance

The cyclothon is designed to celebrate national consciousness and strengthen public engagement with coastal security. It also seeks to connect security stakeholders with coastal communities. The event marks the role of CISF in safeguarding critical infrastructure and supporting maritime security.

CISF and Coastal Security Role

The CISF has been recognised under the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. Its responsibilities include security at ports and related strategic installations. The force plays an important role in supporting maritime trade, port development and the protection of coastal infrastructure.

Broader Objectives

The initiative also promotes discipline, healthy lifestyles and fitness, especially among youth in coastal regions. It reflects the effort to combine security awareness with public outreach and national unity through a large-scale symbolic journey.
