Citizenship by Investment Programme
This is a programme under which an individual can get citizenship of a country if they make investments in that country. This is a way for countries to raise capital from investors of foreign lands, in return granting them citizenships.
To apply for this programme the applicants must fulfil various qualification criteria. Investment for them to get citizenships can be done in a wide variety of ways such as contribution made towards various government funds, investment in business qualifying them for this programme, purchase of qualifying real estate or specific number of jobs has to be created, etc.
This Programme offers three categories. They are
- Citizenship by Investment in which an individual gets cash for passports or golden passports.
- Residence by Investments under which individuals receive golden visa
- Hybrid programme under which an individual receives both immediate residence as well citizenship.

In recent news, Gaston Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda has asked neighbouring country Dominica to handover fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi of India directly back to India. As per Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Choksi was residing in Antigua and Barbuda after having fled India since the year 2018. He had taken citizenship in the year 2017 under the Citizenship by Investment Programme. He will not be having same rights in Dominica where he was apprehended from his illegal hideout as he was having in Antigua and Barbuda.
