India expanded e-visa entry to 14 additional seaports on 19 March 2026, and the Ministry of Home Affairs notified their designation as Immigration Check Posts on 22 April 2026. The total number of seaports in India where foreign nationals holding e-visas can enter increased to 33.
Immigration Check Posts
Immigration Check Posts, or ICPs, are authorised points of entry and exit for foreign nationals under India’s immigration framework. India had 114 ICPs across air, sea, land, rail, and river routes as of 23 April 2026, and 37 of them were seaports.
Seaports Included in the Expansion
- Gujarat received seven additional seaports for e-visa entry, namely Alang, Bedi Bandar, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Hazira, Pipavav, and Mandvi.
- Tamil Nadu received three additional seaports, namely Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Tuticorin.
- Andhra Pradesh received Kakinada and Krishnapatnam as additional e-visa entry points.
- Odisha received Paradip and Dhamra as additional e-visa entry points.
e-Visa Facility in India
India’s e-Visa system is an electronic travel authorisation facility for eligible foreign nationals. It is used for categories such as tourism, business, medical treatment, and conferences, and it permits entry through designated airports and seaports.
Related Immigration Update
On 22 April 2026, the Ministry of Home Affairs also revised the modalities for granting tourist visas to Chinese nationals. Tourist visas are a separate visa category from e-visas under India’s immigration rules.
