Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault zone

The Enriquillo–Plantain Garden fault zone (EPGFZ) runs along the southern side of the island of Hispaniola, where the Haiti and the Dominican Republic is located. It is named after Lake Enriquillo in the Dominican Republic where the fault zone emerges. It runs along the southern portion of the Hispaniola through the Caribbean to the Plantain Garden River in Jamaica.
The EPGFZ cuts across HaitiÂ’s southwestern Tiburon Peninsula. The recent 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti may have occurred along this fault zone. It may have been the source for the three major earthquakes in the Caribbean nation between 1751 and 1860, two of which destroyed Port-au-Prince.
