India has signed a five-year Memorandum of About with the World Food Programme for the supply of rice to support global humanitarian operations. The agreement strengthens India’s role in international food assistance and reflects its commitment to combating hunger and malnutrition through cooperative food systems.
MoU Details
The Food Corporation of India will supply 2,00,000 metric tonnes of rice to the World Food Programme under the agreement. The rice may contain up to 25% broken grains. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution. It will remain valid for five years from the date of signing and may be extended by mutual consent.
Pricing and Supply Terms
- The price will be fixed on an annual basis by mutual agreement.
- The current price is set at INR 2,800 per quintal up to 31 March 2026.
- The arrangement provides a structured supply line for humanitarian food requirements.
- The agreement links India’s grain surplus capacity with international relief needs.
