India and Israel have strengthened cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture through a high-level visit to Eilat, Israel, for the Second Global Summit on Blue Food Security – Sea the Future 2026. The visit focused on blue economy partnerships, sustainable fishing, technology exchange and the creation of joint institutional mechanisms for future collaboration.
Summit Participation and Key Engagements
The Indian delegation took part in the opening plenary and a global ministerial panel on food security and the blue economy. India brought into light its progress in fisheries, aquaculture and marine resource management. The delegation also interacted with ministers, senior officials and private sector representatives from several countries, including Ghana, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Morocco, Romania and the Philippines.
Joint Declaration on Fisheries and Aquaculture
A Joint Ministerial Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in Fisheries and Aquaculture was signed between India and Israel. It covers:
- Technology and innovation in the sector.
- Sustainable fishing practices and responsible resource use.
- Capacity building and trade cooperation.
- Establishment of Joint Centres of Excellence.
The declaration is intended to deepen institutional and technical collaboration in the coming years.
Technology, Startups and Research Cooperation
The delegation visited an agri-tech innovation exhibition and met startups working on fisheries, aquaculture, blue food and marine innovation. Discussions covered water-efficient aquaculture, RNA-based shrimp health solutions, and microalgae technologies for hatchery productivity and seed quality. These interactions underlined the role of innovation in improving productivity, biosecurity and sustainability.
Mariculture, Industry Links and Future Pathways
The delegation visited the National Centre for Mariculture in Eilat and the SeaNovation Innovation Center. Discussions focused on broodstock development, hatchery technologies, integrated multi-trophic aquaculture models and disease management. Bilateral talks also explored trade, joint research and development, best practices and mariculture cooperation. The visit is expected to support deeper India-Israel engagement in fisheries, aquaculture and the wider blue economy.
