India Win SAFF Under-19 Women’s Title

India Win SAFF Under-19 Women’s Title

India clinched the South Asian Football Federation Under-19 Women’s Championship title with a 4-0 victory over Bangladesh in the final at Pokhara Rangasala Stadium, Nepal. The Young Tigresses produced a dominant performance to avenge their earlier round-robin defeat and finish the tournament on a high. The result also underlined India’s growing depth in women’s football, with several young players making a strong case for future international assignments.

Final Match Performance

India started with intent and took control early. Captain Julan Nongmaithem opened the scoring, giving India the momentum in the title clash. Elizabeth Lakra added the second goal, widening the gap before Pearl Fernandes and substitute Anwita Raghuraman completed the emphatic win. India’s defence remained compact throughout, preventing Bangladesh from mounting a sustained comeback.

Significance of the Victory

The title was important for both results and confidence. India had lost to Bangladesh in the league stage, but the final showed a clear response in a high-pressure match. Such wins help build competitive mentality in youth football and strengthen the pipeline for the senior national team. The performance also brought into light the value of international exposure for emerging players.

Preparation for AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup

India had sent its Under-17 women’s national team to the SAFF Under-19 Women’s Championship as part of preparation for the AFC Under-17 Women’s Asian Cup later in the year. The move provided the squad with tougher match experience against regional opponents. It also helped the coaching staff assess player readiness, tactical discipline and match temperament in tournament conditions.

India’s Youth Football Development

The triumph reflects the broader focus on women’s youth football in India. Regular participation in regional and continental events is essential for developing technical quality, fitness and game awareness. Success at the SAFF level can support long-term progress by creating a stronger base for future national teams and improving India’s standing in Asian women’s football.
