The International Buddhist Confederation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, will organise the 2nd Global Buddhist Summit on 24 and 25 January 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The summit will focus on the relevance of Buddha Dhamma in addressing present-day global challenges such as conflict, alienation, uncertainty and environmental stress. It will bring together Buddhist leaders, scholars, practitioners and dignitaries from across the world for dialogue on peace, ethics and coexistence.
Summit Theme and Purpose
The summit will be held under the theme Collective Wisdom, United Voice, and Mutual Coexistence. The theme marks the role of Buddhist philosophy in promoting harmony, shared prosperity and constructive international engagement. It also reflects the International Buddhist Confederation’s motto, Collective Wisdom, United Voice.
Participation and Format
Around 200 delegates are expected to attend, including:
- Supreme Patriarchs.
- Heads of national Buddhist sanghas.
- Eminent monks and scholars.
- Senior dignitaries from different countries.
The overall audience is expected to exceed 800 participants. The summit will serve as a global platform for discussion on Buddhist thought and its contemporary relevance.
Key Discussion Areas
The deliberations will examine how Buddhist values can support ethical leadership, social harmony and sustainable living. The discussions are expected to address:
- Conflict resolution through compassion and wisdom.
- Mutual coexistence in diverse societies.
- Responses to consumerism and technological change.
- Environmental responsibility and mindful living.
India and Buddhist Diplomacy
The summit strengthens India’s engagement with Buddhist countries and traditions. It also reinforces New Delhi’s role as a centre for Buddhist dialogue, cultural diplomacy and civilisational outreach. The Prime Minister is likely to inaugurate the summit, as in the inaugural edition held in 2023.
