Janaushadhi Saptah 2026 began with health check-up camps across India to promote awareness of affordable and quality generic medicines. The week-long outreach will conclude on 7 March with the 8th Janaushadhi Diwas. The initiative is being organised by the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Nationwide Health Camps
Health camps are being held from 1 to 5 March at more than 250 locations. On the first day, camps were conducted at around 50 centres across several States and Union Territories, including Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Around 100 people attended each camp on average.
Services Offered at Camps
The camps are providing free medical consultations, diagnostic tests and medicines. Services include blood tests, blood pressure monitoring and thyroid tests. Doctor consultations cover general medicine, infections, chronic diseases and paediatric care. At some centres, specialist services such as nephrology and diabetology are also available. Select camps are additionally offering physiotherapy, eye check-ups and child health services. Women and senior citizens are among the main beneficiaries.
Focus on Generic Medicines
The outreach is linked to the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana, under which Jan Aushadhi Kendras sell quality generic medicines at lower prices. The campaign marks the theme – जन औषधि सस्ती भी, भरोसेमंद भी, सेहत की बात, बचत के साथ. Public participation has been encouraged through awareness drives and free distribution of Janaushadhi medicines.
Expansion of Jan Aushadhi Network
More than 18,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are currently operational across the country. The government has set a target of 25,000 Kendras by 31 March 2027 to improve last-mile access to affordable medicines. Citizens are also being encouraged to use the Jan Aushadhi Sugam mobile application to locate the nearest Kendra.
