Bharat Taxi Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform

Bharat Taxi Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform

India’s first cooperative-based ride-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, is set for launch in New Delhi as part of the Government of India’s push for cooperative-led, citizen-centric mobility. The initiative places drivers, called Sarathis, at the centre of ownership and value creation, and seeks to offer an indigenous alternative to aggregator-driven app-based transport models.

What Bharat Taxi Is

Bharat Taxi is a multi-state cooperative society-based ride-hailing platform registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. It was established on 6 June 2025. The platform follows a zero-commission and surge-free pricing model. Profits are distributed directly to drivers, supporting the idea of Sarathi Hi Malik.

Driver Welfare and Social Security

The platform focuses on social security for drivers through:

  • Personal accident insurance cover of ₹5 lakh.
  • Family health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh.
  • Retirement savings support.
  • Dedicated driver support systems.

The top six performing Sarathis will be honoured during the launch, and share certificates will be distributed to reinforce driver ownership.

Scale, Services and Expansion Plans

Bharat Taxi has already attracted more than three lakh drivers and over one lakh users. It completes over 10,000 rides daily in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. Around ₹10 crore has been directly distributed to drivers so far. The platform also runs support centres at seven locations in Delhi and allows drivers to work on other platforms without exclusivity clauses.

Women’s Participation and Future Roadmap

The initiative includes women-focused mobility efforts such as Bike Didi, under which more than 150 women drivers have joined. Bharat Taxi plans to expand across all States and cities within two years, strengthen support centres nationwide, and deepen integration with digital public infrastructure to build an inclusive cooperative mobility ecosystem.
