The intensive house listing and housing census operations for India’s first digital census have begun in Mizoram, marking the start of the first phase of the general census exercise in the state. The launch took place at Lok Bhavan in Mizoram. The exercise is part of Census 2027, which will be conducted in two phases. The first phase covers house listing and housing census, while the second phase will record population details next year.
First Phase of Census 2027
The first phase began on 1 April and includes door-to-door enumeration. In Mizoram, this process will continue till 15 May. Officials will collect information related to housing conditions, household amenities, and other basic details needed for the census framework.
Digital Enumeration Process
This is being described as India’s first-ever digital census. The process includes online self-enumeration and the use of a Self Enumeration ID. During the launch, the Governor’s own housing census entry was completed through this digital system. The move is aimed at improving speed, accuracy, and data management.
Role of Field Officials and Citizens
Field officials have been asked to carry out their duties with dedication and sincerity. They have also been told to explain the process clearly to the public so that no household is missed. Citizens have been urged to cooperate fully with census officials to ensure complete and accurate data collection.
Population Enumeration Next Year
The second phase of Census 2027 will begin in February next year. This phase will focus on population enumeration and the collection of detailed demographic information. The data gathered will be used for planning, policy formulation, and administrative purposes.
