Poshan Pakhwada 2026 Begins in April

Poshan Pakhwada 2026 will be observed from 9 to 23 April 2026 across India. The eighth edition of the fortnight-long campaign aims to strengthen nutritional outcomes through community participation, early childhood care, and awareness on healthy practices. The national launch will be held in New Delhi, marking another step in the wider Poshan Abhiyaan, which has grown into a people’s movement for better nutrition.

Theme and Objective

The theme for 2026 is Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life. It marks the importance of the first 1,000 days and early childhood in shaping physical growth, cognitive development, and long-term well-being. Scientific evidence shows that most brain development occurs by the age of six, making nutrition and early stimulation crucial.

Key Focus Areas

  • Maternal and child nutrition during pregnancy and early infancy.
  • Exclusive breastfeeding and age-appropriate complementary feeding.
  • Early stimulation and responsive caregiving for children aged 0–3 years.
  • Play-based learning for children aged 3–6 years.
  • Reducing screen time and promoting active family engagement.

Implementation Through Anganwadi Centres

During the Pakhwada, activities will be carried out through Anganwadi Centres in all States and Union Territories. These will include Poshan Panchayats, awareness sessions, early learning activities, and healthy lifestyle campaigns. Mothers, caregivers, families, local bodies, and community institutions will be involved to strengthen Jan Bhagidari.

Significance for India’s Nutrition Mission

The campaign will also showcase best practices from States and Union Territories and recognise the role of Anganwadi workers and other frontline workers. It seeks to reinforce the link between nutrition, care, early learning, and community action. Poshan Pakhwada remains a key pillar of the national effort to build a malnutrition-free and empowered India.
