Mumbai Launches Saksham Skill Survey

Mumbai Launches Saksham Skill Survey

Mumbai’s suburban district has launched the ‘Saksham Skill Survey’, an AI-based door-to-door initiative aimed at mapping the skills, education and training needs of youth aged 18 to 40. The survey is designed to improve employability through local skill planning and to connect candidates with suitable government-approved training institutions and courses.

Survey Coverage and Method

The survey will cover around 55,000 houses in the H-West ward of Mumbai. It will be carried out over the next few months using a standardised format. The exercise will collect information on:

  • Educational qualifications of candidates.
  • Specific skill interests.
  • Need for training for employment.

Employment and Training Goals

The initiative aims to train at least 15,000 candidates by next year. It also seeks to make 5,000 candidates self-reliant through employment or entrepreneurship. After data collection, candidates will be given details of approved institutions and relevant courses. The focus is on linking skill gaps with practical job-oriented training.

AI-Based Workforce Intelligence Model

The survey is being described as India’s first decentralised, Artificial Intelligence-based Workforce Intelligence model. It is intended to support long-term planning for skills and employment at the local level. Such a model can help authorities identify demand patterns, training needs and employability gaps more accurately. It also reflects the growing use of digital tools in public employment planning.

Significance for Skill Development

The initiative is important for exam preparation because it combines:

  • AI in governance.
  • Decentralised workforce planning.
  • Skill mapping at the ward level.
  • Employment-linked training delivery.

It may serve as a model for targeted skilling interventions in urban areas and for improving the link between education, training and jobs.
