The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a statutory body under the Ministry of Cooperation, is implementing two fully funded support schemes for cooperatives – Yuva Sahakar and Swayam Shakti Sahakar. These schemes are designed to strengthen cooperative institutions, promote innovation, and improve access to finance for women-led and community-based economic activities. The information was placed before the Rajya Sabha in a written reply by the Union Minister for Home and Cooperation.
Yuva Sahakar Scheme
Yuva Sahakar is aimed at newly formed cooperative societies, especially those with new or innovative ideas. It supports young cooperatives in setting up viable business activities and expanding their operational base. The scheme is intended to encourage entrepreneurship within the cooperative sector and help new societies become financially sustainable.
Swayam Shakti Sahakar Scheme
Swayam Shakti Sahakar focuses on improving access to affordable and reliable financial services for poor households. It also seeks to help women Self Help Groups access adequate bank credit for collective socio-economic activities. The scheme supports sustainable livelihood creation and aims to strengthen women’s economic participation through the cooperative framework.
NCDC Funding and Assistance
- Both schemes are fully funded and supported by NCDC.
- Financial assistance has been released to cooperatives under both schemes for 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25.
- The schemes reflect the government’s emphasis on cooperative-led development and credit support.
- NCDC plays a key role in financing and promoting cooperative institutions across sectors.
Significance for Cooperative Sector
The schemes are important for deepening cooperative outreach in rural and semi-urban areas. Yuva Sahakar supports innovation and youth-led cooperative ventures, while Swayam Shakti Sahakar strengthens women’s groups and livelihood-based enterprises. Together, they align with broader goals of financial inclusion, self-reliance and inclusive growth in the cooperative economy.
