The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) has expanded its rural mobilisation and credit outreach . As of December 2025, 10.05 crore households have been mobilised into 90.91 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs). The scheme has also strengthened women’s access to formal finance through Bank Sakhis and community-based recovery systems at the branch level.
SHG Mobilisation Under DAY-NRLM
DAY-NRLM is the Government’s flagship rural livelihoods programme. It aims to organise rural poor households into SHGs and federations. These institutions help women access credit, skills, and livelihood support. The latest figures show large-scale coverage across rural India, reflecting the scheme’s role in financial inclusion and social empowerment.
Role of Bank Sakhis
Bank Sakhis operate at the branch level and act as a bridge between SHGs and banks. Their work includes identifying eligible SHGs for bank linkage, preparing loan applications, and following up on pending proposals. They also assist in loan review and enhancement cases. A total of 50,548 Bank Sakhis have been deployed so far. Their presence has improved the flow of institutional credit to women-led SHGs.
Institutional Credit and Recovery Mechanism
Since the launch of DAY-NRLM in 2013–14, women SHGs have accessed bank credit worth ₹12.18 lakh crore. This has strengthened rural financial inclusion and reduced dependence on informal credit sources. The scheme has also institutionalised a Community Based Recovery Mechanism (CBRM) at each bank branch. CBRM supports timely repayment and improves loan discipline among SHGs.
Entrepreneurship Support Under SVEP
Under the Start-up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP) component of DAY-NRLM, 5.88 lakh enterprises have been supported as of December 2025. This component promotes rural micro-enterprises and local livelihoods. It adds an entrepreneurship dimension to the broader SHG ecosystem and supports income generation in villages.
