One Station One Product Expands Across Railways

One Station One Product Expands Across Railways

Indian Railways’ One Station One Product (OSOP) initiative has expanded into a major platform for promoting local crafts, traditional products and grassroots entrepreneurship. Launched in 2022, the scheme turns railway stations into outlets for regional goods and gives artisans direct access to millions of passengers. By January 19, 2026, OSOP outlets had been set up at 2,002 railway stations, with 2,326 outlets operational across the country.

Scale of the Initiative

OSOP has grown rapidly in a short period. The scheme now covers a large network of stations across India. It provides a structured retail space for local producers, including artisans, weavers and small entrepreneurs. The initiative links regional production centres with one of the world’s largest passenger networks.

Economic Impact

The scheme has created direct economic opportunities for more than 1.32 lakh artisans, weavers and small producers. It allows them to sell products without relying only on intermediaries. This improves income visibility and market access. The model supports small-scale livelihoods and encourages self-employment in rural and semi-urban areas.

Promotion of Local Identity

The products sold under OSOP reflect India’s regional diversity. These include handmade pottery, bamboo crafts, handloom items, spices and indigenous sweets. The outlets also help preserve traditional skills that risk decline. Railway stations are being reimagined as spaces that showcase local heritage, culture and craftsmanship.

Policy Significance

OSOP aligns with the government’s Vocal for Local approach. It combines commerce with cultural promotion and supports inclusive economic growth. The initiative also improves the passenger experience by making stations more vibrant and regionally representative. It is an example of how public infrastructure can be used to strengthen local enterprise.
