The PM-SURAJ portal has crossed its target in 2024-25 by disbursing loans worth Rs 1,389.61 crore to 1.39 lakh entrepreneurs. The initiative is designed to strengthen economic empowerment among marginalised communities, especially Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and other disadvantaged groups. It works as a unified platform for concessional credit support and links state channelising agencies with partner banks.
Loan Disbursal Achievement
The portal facilitated credit support through three key institutions:
- National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC)
- National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC)
- National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC)
Together, these agencies helped deliver loans to entrepreneurs under the PM-SURAJ framework. The disbursal has exceeded the annual target, reflecting wider uptake of the scheme.
Purpose of the Portal
PM-SURAJ is meant to simplify access to concessional loans for eligible beneficiaries. It brings multiple credit support schemes onto one platform. The system is intended to reduce delays and improve coordination between implementing agencies, banks, and applicants. It supports self-employment and small enterprise creation among vulnerable sections.
Coverage and Processing Time
The programme has expanded beyond Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes to include De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-nomadic Tribes. A key feature is the short turnaround time for loan processing. Applications are generally approved within two to four weeks, which improves access to timely financial assistance for small entrepreneurs.
Significance for Financial Inclusion
The achievement is important for social and economic inclusion. It shows the role of targeted credit in supporting livelihoods and entrepreneurship among underprivileged communities. The portal also reflects a shift towards digital coordination in welfare delivery and faster implementation of credit-based empowerment schemes.
