Punjab Narcotics and Arms Modules Busted

Punjab Narcotics and Arms Modules Busted

Punjab Police conducted multiple operations in early 2026 targeting narcotics and illegal arms modules in Punjab. These operations resulted in arrests and significant seizures of heroin, weapons, ammunition, and drug money. The modules had links to foreign countries including Pakistan and Portugal.

Seizures and Arrests in Hoshiarpur

On April 20, 2026, Punjab Police arrested four individuals in Hoshiarpur linked to an inter-state and foreign narcotics and arms module. The recovered items included 9.925 kg of heroin, two foreign-made pistols, eight magazines, and 40 live cartridges. The arrested persons acted as local handlers for foreign-based gangsters involved in drug trafficking and illegal arms supply. An FIR was registered at Garhshankar police station for further investigation.

Cross-Border Drug Smuggling in Amritsar

On April 18, 2026, Punjab Police busted a cross-border drug smuggling module in Amritsar with links to Pakistan and handlers in Portugal. Two persons were arrested and 64.62 kg of heroin was recovered. Earlier, on February 9, 2026, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested five accused involved in arms and narcotics smuggling, recovering six sophisticated pistols, 10 live cartridges, 115 grams of heroin, and ₹11.90 lakh in drug money.

Border Security Force and Punjab Police Operations

In the first quarter of 2026, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police intercepted over 330 kg of heroin, 5.5 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), and 10.50 kg of opium along the Indo-Pak International Border in Punjab. Additionally, 58 weapons, 654 rounds of ammunition, 93 magazines, and a grenade were seized during these operations.

Law Enforcement and Investigation

The investigations focus on dismantling the entire narcotics and illegal arms network operating in Punjab with international linkages. The seizures indicate attempts to fuel illegal activities and terrorism through drug trafficking and arms smuggling. Punjab shares a 553 km border with Pakistan, making it a significant region for cross-border smuggling activities. The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 governs drug control and enforcement in India.
