Quality Control Orders for Potable Water Bottles and Flame-Producing Lighters

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in India has recently issued official notifications regarding Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for two important consumer items: ‘Potable water bottles’ and ‘Flame-Producing Lighters.’ These QCOs aim to enhance India’s quality infrastructure, prioritize consumer well-being and safety, and promote a conducive environment for domestic industries.

Mandatory Certification for Potable Water Bottles:

The QCO for ‘Potable Water Bottles’ mandates compulsory certification under the relevant Indian Standards (IS) for the production and import of water bottles made of copper, stainless steel, or aluminium. This certification ensures that the bottles meet the prescribed quality standards and are safe for the consumption of potable water. The objective is to protect consumers from sub-standard or unsafe water bottles in the market.

Quality Control for Flame-Producing Lighters:

The QCO for Flame-Producing Lighters requires compulsory certification under the IS Standards for ‘Safety Specification for Lighters’ and ‘Safety Specifications for Utility Lighters.’ These certifications apply to flame lighters manufactured for the domestic market or imported into India. Support for Domestic Micro and Small Industries:
