RoDTEP Rates Restored for Exporters

RoDTEP Rates Restored for Exporters

India has restored the rates and value caps under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme for all eligible export products with effect from 1 July 2025. The move is aimed at supporting exporters facing higher freight costs and trade disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia, especially in the Gulf and wider maritime corridor.

What the Decision Means

  • The restored rates are those that came into force on 22 February 2025.
  • The earlier restriction limiting benefits to 50 per cent has been withdrawn.
  • The change applies to all eligible export products under the scheme.

Purpose of RoDTEP

  • RoDTEP refunds embedded taxes and duties that are not otherwise rebated.
  • It is designed to make Indian exports more competitive in global markets.
  • The scheme supports exporters by reducing the cost burden of domestic taxes in export supply chains.

Why the Restoration Was Needed

  • Exporters are facing elevated freight charges due to maritime disruptions.
  • War-related risks in West Asia have affected shipping routes and logistics.
  • The restored support is intended to provide timely relief and policy stability.

Wider Economic Significance

  • The decision reflects India’s effort to maintain export competitiveness in a difficult external environment.
  • It also signals a responsive trade policy approach to global supply chain shocks.
  • Such measures are important for sectors exposed to international shipping and cost volatility.
