The first batch of beneficiaries under the Puducherry Government’s Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Yatra Scheme has departed to visit places linked with the life and legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The journey was flagged off at Puducherry Railway Station. The scheme is being implemented by the Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department and aims to provide beneficiaries with an educational and commemorative visit to important Ambedkar-related sites.
Scheme Launch and Flag-Off
The yatra was formally launched at Puducherry Railway Station. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan flagged off the first batch. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, MLA Anibal Kennedy, and senior officials were present at the ceremony. The event marked the beginning of the government-supported pilgrimage-style tour.
Purpose of the Yatra
The scheme is designed to help beneficiaries understand the life, ideas, and social reform work of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The visit is intended to strengthen awareness of his contribution to social justice, equality, and constitutional values. Such initiatives also serve as educational exposure for communities associated with welfare programmes.
Financial Support and Implementation
The Adi Dravidar and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department is spending ₹40,000 per beneficiary for the yatra. This funding covers the travel arrangement under the scheme. The programme reflects the government’s focus on welfare-linked cultural and historical outreach for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
Feedback and Future Improvement
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan urged beneficiaries to share their feedback after the visit. The feedback is expected to help improve and strengthen the scheme in future batches. Such review mechanisms are important for assessing the effectiveness of public welfare initiatives and ensuring better delivery.
