Fortnight-long SAKSHAM 2026 has been launched to build public awareness on conserving petroleum and natural gas, with activities planned across Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh from 1 to 15 February. The campaign seeks to promote fuel-saving habits, reduce import dependence and support long-term energy security.
Campaign Objective
SAKSHAM stands for Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotsav. It is an annual fuel conservation campaign of the oil industry. The 2026 edition focuses on responsible use of petroleum products and natural gas, which are vital national resources. The campaign also marks the need to reduce wastage in daily transport, household and industrial use.
Official Inauguration
The inaugural programme was held with participation from state-level coordinators of oil companies and officials from Punjab and Chandigarh. A message from the Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh was read at the event. The chief guest underlined the importance of conserving fuel to save foreign exchange and lower Indiaβs dependence on imports.
Awareness Activities Planned
- Public outreach will be conducted in transport, industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors.
- A pledge on conserving petroleum products was administered to participants.
- A street play was staged to communicate the message of fuel conservation.
- A mobile van carrying awareness messages was flagged off for public outreach.

Officials stated that the campaign aims to educate students and citizens on practical fuel-saving measures. It also links conservation with economic growth and environmental sustainability.
