Samarth Scheme Extended for Textile Skilling

Samarth Scheme Extended for Textile Skilling

The Union Government has extended the Samarth Scheme for Capacity Building in the Textiles Sector for two more years, covering 2024-25 to 2025-26. The scheme supports demand-driven and placement-oriented skilling in the organised textile sector across India. It covers the full textile value chain, except spinning and weaving, and aims to strengthen employment generation in the industry.

About Samarth Scheme

Samarth is a Ministry of Textiles initiative focused on skill development in textiles. It is designed to meet industry demand and improve employability. The scheme supports training in textile-related trades and helps create a skilled workforce for factories, units and allied activities.

Training Coverage and Beneficiaries

A total of 3,90,512 beneficiaries were trained under the scheme during FY 2020-21 to 2024-25. In the current year 2025-26, 2,04,668 beneficiaries were trained up to 10 March 2026. Overall, 4,64,812 beneficiaries, including weavers and artisans, have secured employment after training under the scheme as on 10 March 2026.

Women and Social Inclusion

The scheme has a strong inclusion profile. Of the 3,90,512 trained beneficiaries in the last five years, 3,44,696 were women. In addition, 1,03,181 beneficiaries belonged to Scheduled Castes and 49,259 belonged to Scheduled Tribes. This shows the scheme’s role in expanding access to skill training among women and disadvantaged communities.

Training Infrastructure and Significance

As on 10 March 2026, there were 4,430 active training centres under the scheme. The large network of centres supports pan-India implementation and wider outreach. The extension is expected to continue industry-linked skilling, improve job readiness and support the textile sector’s workforce requirements.
