Second BRICS Sherpas’ Meeting

The second edition of the BRICS Sherpas’ and Sous Sherpas’ meeting was conducted from 25th to 28th of May to discuss the preparations for the scheduled meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers on 1st June, 2021.

This meeting was convened under the Chair ship of India from 25th to 28th of May. During the meeting, the BRICS partners have negotiated regarding the key deliverables for India’s chair-ship at the BRICS 2021 summit. They also negotiated about outcome documents for the Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

About BRICS Sherpa

Sherpa is the personal representative of the head of state or government, for preparing international summits like the G7 or the G20. Sherpa are usually referred to as Sherpas for G7 summit but this designation can also be extended to the different regular conferences which require participations of the head of the states. For example, the BRICS Sherpas’ denotes the representatives of the BRICS Nation.

The Sherpas are very influential even though they do not have any authority to make a final decision regarding any of the agreement of the summits.

The name Sherpa has been designated because the Sherpa people of Nepal are the ones who acts as porters and guides across the Himalaya. Just like that the Sherpas of the summits clear a way for the head of the states.

The first BRICS Sherpa summit was help in Brazil in the year 2019.
