On 30 April 2026, the Telangana government appointed Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy as the State Security Advisor (SSA). The appointment came after his superannuation from more than three decades of service in the police force.
Office of State Security Advisor
The State Security Advisor in Telangana advises the government on police administration, law and order, internal security, crime control, narcotics control, and road safety. The post carries a tenure of three years from the date of assuming charge.
Status, Rank and Emoluments
Shivadhar Reddy will hold the status and rank equivalent to a Chief Secretary to the government. He will receive a fixed remuneration of Rs 2.25 lakh per month and will get office accommodation, a government vehicle, and support staff.
Administrative Context
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy approved the use of Shivadhar Reddyβs police experience for law and order and internal security matters. The Congress government had rescinded previous advisor appointments in December 2023.
Retired IPS Officers in Security Roles
The appointment is the first case under the present Congress government of a retired IPS officer being appointed exclusively for security affairs. The Indian Police Service is an All India Service under Article 312 of the Constitution of India.
