World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized UN agency established on November 1, 1975 to promote responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Headquartered in Madrid, Spain, the international organization promotes tourism sector to support economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability.
The UNWTO provides market knowledge, promotes competitive and sustainable tourism policies and instruments and fosters tourism education and training across the world. It is organizing various activities to use tourism as an instrument to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. With the pandemic bringing the tourism sector to a near standstill, the UNWTO is currently working to support the struggling firms through various innovative and sustainable solutions.
