World Tourism Day
World Tourism Day is observed on September 27 to commemorate the adoption of the Statutes of the United Nations World Tourism Organization in 1970. This paved the way towards the establishment of the UNWTO in 1975. The day was celebrated as an international observance for the first time in 1980.
The objective of the World Tourism Day is to raise global awareness about the importance of tourism in improving social, cultural, economic and political ties within the international community. Tourism has played a major role in the conservation of culture and heritage of far flung communities.
