What is World Food Safety Day?

The World Food Safety Day was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2018 to promote food safety at the international level. It is observed on June 7 each year. It is jointly organised by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

During this day, the importance of detecting and preventing foodborne risks and the issue of global food insecurity are highlighted. The theme for this year is “Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow”. The theme emphasises the long-term benefits of producing and consuming safe food.
