World Giving Index 2021

The World Giving Index 2021 was released by the Charities Aid Foundation. It is a global survey that studies people’s volunteering or helping tendencies. The newly released report revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has toppled the giving trends across the world due to lockdowns and economic crisis.

Several western nations like the UK, US, Canada, Ireland and the Netherlands have fallen out of the highest rankings. India’s position, however, jumped to 14 from the 10-year global rank of 82. Some countries have jumped to top ten positions for the first time. However, this is because of the falling positions of the other countries and not due to the improvement in the giving trends.
