World IBD Day

World IBD Day is observed on May 19 to spread awareness about ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. It came into existence in 2010 at the Digestive Disease Week in the United States. It is vital to create awareness about the IBD because if it remains untreated, it will lead to complications like malnutrition, blood loss, intestinal ruptures and colorectal cancer. The causes of IBD are genetics, age, compromised immune system and smoking.
