World Rivers Day
World Rivers Day is observed every year on the fourth Sunday of September to raise global awareness about the importance of conservation of water bodies. The day celebrates the world’s waterways, highlights the importance of rivers and promotes river conservation efforts. It was observed for the first time in 2005, after the launch of the Water for Life Decade that year.
World Rivers Day 2021 falls on September 26. The theme for this year is “waterways in our communities”. It highlights the importance of urban waterway conservation and repair, as it is constantly under stress because of anthropogenic activities.
