Guru Nanak Dev was born in 1459 in the village of Talwandi Rai Bhoe, near Lahore, which has since been renamed Nankana Sahib. He was the first of the ten Sikh gurus and is honored as the originating figure of Sikhism. Today, his birth anniversary is celebrated worldwide, with a recent celebration marking 553 years since his birth.
