Exercise Sanjha Shakti in Maharashtra

The Indian Army conducted Exercise Sanjha Shakti at the Dighi Hills Range under the Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area of the Southern Command. The joint Military–Civil Fusion drill focused on improving coordination between the armed forces and civilian agencies for complex security challenges, disaster response and emergency management.

Purpose of the Exercise

The exercise aimed to strengthen civil–military synergy and improve rapid response capabilities. It tested how military and civilian agencies can work together during emergencies in the hinterland. Public safety and preparedness were key priorities.

Participation and Agencies Involved

More than 350 personnel took part in the drill. The Indian Army worked with 16 civilian agencies, including:

  • Maharashtra Police
  • Force One
  • Fire services from multiple departments

The exercise brought together security, rescue and emergency response teams in a coordinated setting.

Operational Focus

The drill assessed interoperability, communication protocols, decision-making processes and rapid response mechanisms. Realistic, mission-oriented scenarios were used to test how quickly and effectively agencies could respond to crises. The Army said the exercise validated seamless coordination among civil and military stakeholders.

Strategic Significance

The Southern Command said the exercise reinforced the Army’s role in rear area security and public safety. It also brought into light the importance of Military–Civil Fusion in disaster response and support for veterans and their families. The drill underlined the need for close cooperation to safeguard the hinterland and respond swiftly to emergencies.
