Alwar has become the first district in India to achieve 100% insurance coverage under the Centre’s ‘Insurance for All by 2047’ roadmap. The milestone reflects a grassroots push towards financial security and social protection, with all eligible residents in the district now brought under insurance coverage through a door-to-door survey and enrolment drive.
Historic Insurance Milestone
Alwar’s achievement is linked to the broader vision of ‘Secure India–Insured India’. The initiative is a joint effort of the Government of India and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), which works under the Ministry of Finance. The district has now become the first in the country to report full insurance coverage.
Door-to-Door Survey and Enrolment
A total of 1,367 uninsured persons above the age of 10 were identified across nine villages and covered under insurance. The process was completed through systematic household-level surveys. The villages declared fully insured are:
- Bhulla Ka Bas
- Bichpuri
- Palankheda
- Antapada
- Hanumanta
- Kalyanpura
- Morodkhurd
- Kodalka
- Lalpur
Funding and Implementation
The insurance premiums for eligible adults in these villages were paid by a non-governmental organisation. This ensured that villagers received coverage without any financial burden. The policies were issued by United India Insurance Company Ltd., a government-owned insurer.
Significance for Social Security
Officials described the development as a major step for the insurance sector and for financial inclusion at the local level. The coverage is expected to strengthen household resilience against risk, support individual dignity, and improve access to basic economic security. The achievement also marks the role of public-private and civil society participation in expanding insurance penetration.
