MILAN Village Opens at Visakhapatnam

Indian Navy inaugurated the MILAN Village at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam on 15 February 2026 as part of MILAN 2026, the flagship international naval exercise. The village has been created as an experience zone for delegates and naval personnel from over 70 countries. It combines cultural showcases, social interaction and maritime outreach, reflecting India’s effort to deepen cooperation with partner navies.

MILAN Village and Its Purpose

The MILAN Village has been conceptualised as a hub for camaraderie and friendship. It enables interaction beyond formal naval engagements and supports cultural exchange among participating countries. The venue is designed to strengthen personal and institutional ties through shared experiences.

Cultural Showcase and Indian Heritage

The village presents India’s diverse cultural traditions through live vocal performances, folk dances and cultural ensembles. It also includes stalls featuring naval souvenirs, handicrafts and handloom products from across the country. Visitors are offered regional Indian cuisine, denoting the country’s culinary diversity and soft power outreach.

MILAN 2026 and Maritime Cooperation

MILAN 2026 will be held in Visakhapatnam from 15 to 25 February 2026. It is among the largest multilateral naval exercises in the Indo-Pacific. The exercise will focus on interoperability, maritime domain awareness and collective response capabilities. Planned activities include anti-submarine warfare, air defence, search and rescue and cooperative security missions. The exercise supports a free, open, inclusive and rules-based maritime order.

Strategic Significance for India

The event is part of a wider maritime convergence at Visakhapatnam, alongside International Fleet Review 2026 and the IONS Conclave of Chiefs. It reflects India’s MAHASAGAR vision and its role as a Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean region. The MILAN Village serves as the cultural centrepiece of the exercise and symbolises the theme of camaraderie, cooperation and collaboration.
