India ended the World Archery Para Series in Bangkok with a strong haul of 16 medals, including seven gold, five silver and four bronze. The standout result came in the compound women’s final, where teenage quadruple amputee archer Payal Nag defeated world No. 1 Sheetal Devi 139-136 to claim gold. The performance underlined India’s depth in para archery across compound and recurve events.
Payal Nag’s Gold Medal Win
Payal Nag produced one of the biggest results of the tournament by beating Sheetal Devi in the compound women’s final. The 18-year-old showed composure in a high-pressure contest and secured a 139-136 victory. The result was notable because Sheetal Devi is among the most recognised names in para archery.
Other Indian Gold Medals
India added more gold medals through Toman Kumar and Bhawna. Toman defeated Australia’s Jonathon Milne 146-142 in the compound men’s final. Bhawna delivered a dominant display in the recurve women’s summit clash, beating Thailand’s Phattharaphon Pattawaeo 6-0. These wins reflected India’s strength across different bow categories.
Silver and Bronze Medal Performances
Double Paralympic medallist Harvinder Singh settled for silver after losing 3-7 to Indonesia’s Kholidin in the recurve final. Swati Chaudhary also won silver, going down 3-7 to South Korea’s Ok Geum Kim in the W1 women’s gold medal match. In the compound men’s individual event, Shyam Sunder Swami claimed bronze after edging compatriot Rakesh Kumar in a close playoff. Rakesh finished fourth after the narrow defeat.
