India made its debut at the Mundial do Queijo do Brasil 2026, an international cheese and dairy competition held in São Paulo from 16 to 19 April 2026. Indian artisanal cheeses won four medals at the event, including one Super Gold, two Gold, and one Silver.

The Mundial do Queijo do Brasil is a dairy and cheese competition held in Brazil. The 2026 edition received more than 2,700 entries from 30 countries and used anonymous judging by about 350 international and Brazilian experts.
Indian Medal Winners
- Eleftheria Gulmarg (Brie Style) won the Super Gold medal and was made by Mausam Narang of Eleftheria Cheese in Mumbai.
- Yak Churpi-Soft from Nordic Farm in Leh, Ladakh, won one Gold medal.
- Eleftheria Brunost (Whey Cheese) won one Gold medal and was made by Mausam Narang.
- Eleftheria Kaali Miri (Belper Knolle Style) won the Silver medal and was also created by Mausam Narang.
Artisanal Cheese In India
Artisanal cheese refers to cheese made in small batches using traditional or specialised methods. Indian artisanal dairy products include regional varieties such as churpi from the Himalayan region and whey-based cheeses made by small producers.
Official Recognition
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mausam Narang and Thenlay Nurboo on 22 April 2026. The award list included Indian producers from Mumbai and Leh, Ladakh.
