Jannik Sinner Wins Miami Open

Jannik Sinner Wins Miami Open

Jannik Sinner won the Miami Open by defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in the final. The victory completed the ‘Sunshine Double’, with Sinner also having won Indian Wells earlier in the season. He became the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both ATP Masters 1000 events in the same year, and the first to do so without dropping a set across either tournament.

Sunshine Double Achievement

The ‘Sunshine Double’ refers to winning both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season. Sinner became only the eighth different man to achieve this feat. Previous men to complete it include Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras, Marcelo Rios, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Federer and Djokovic have done it multiple times.

Record-Breaking Run

Sinner extended his streak to 34 consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 level, a run that began at last year’s Paris Masters. The Italian improved his season record to 19-2. He is now a seven-time ATP Masters 1000 champion and remains among the leading players on the ATP Tour.

Impact on Rankings and Opponent

Sinner’s title run brought him within 1,190 points of World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the ATP Live Rankings. Jiri Lehecka reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final and is projected to rise to a career-high No. 14 in the ATP Rankings. On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka also completed the Sunshine Double, making it only the fourth year in which both ATP and WTA players achieved the feat in the same season.
