National Panchayati Raj Day 2026

National Panchayati Raj Day 2026

National Panchayati Raj Day will be observed on 24 April 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The day marks the enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, which gave constitutional status to Panchayati Raj Institutions across India. The 2026 observance completes 33 years of this landmark in India’s democratic and decentralised governance framework.

Significance of the Day

National Panchayati Raj Day is observed every year to show the role of local self-government in rural governance. The 73rd Amendment strengthened grassroots democracy by giving legal recognition to Panchayati Raj Institutions. It also created a formal structure for elected rural bodies to take part in development planning and local administration.
